Hello Spring

As I am writing this, I am looking out the window at the bare ground and oh the joy that brings. Being able to get my bare feet on the earth means spring to me, and so many things to look forward to.
Spring has always felt unstable on the farm, uncertainty loomed of what's ahead, and the pressure seemed to slowly build. Last year was a whirlwind of building tunnels, fencing pastures, figuring out so many details for the new land we had acquired. This year, we feel like our feet are actually on the ground, and the energy feels soft. We have gotten a great start to our seeding, already witnessing so much growth, from onions and chard to salad and tomatoes! We also have 2 tunnels already planted with new growth, including radishes and turnips.
Our animal operations are feeling comfortable, even amongst some changes we have to make. We will be switching over to our own beef herd starting in the fall, which is both a little nerve racking and exciting. Birthing our own cattle has been on our vision board for a while, and we were planning to wait a few more years to bring it to life, but due to cattle prices rising, we decided now or never! We are wrapping up our 2026 lambing season, just waiting on one more mom to give birth which will put us at 22 lambs for the year. We are super happy with how it all went and just grateful for our wonderful herd. They are such a joy in our lives. Our sows, boar, and piglets are doing great, and we finally got our feeder pigs out this week! Soon they will venture into the woods where they will spend their days digging and basking in nature as intended.
We will be welcoming our first batch of chicks to the farm in early April, kicking off our meat bird operation for the season. We are increasing our meat chicken production from last year, so grateful to be able to provide more delicious chicken for you all! We will also be welcoming to the farm in April 300 more layer chickens...phew! Needless to say, our egg operation will be bigger and better than ever before.
The farm is blooming with new life and we are just here for it. We are looking forward to a wonderful season, filled with hard work but also ease.
