Our farming practices fall under the regenerative agriculture umbrella, and we are very honored and proud of this. The idea behind regenerative agriculture is to go beyond sustainability. We aren’t trying to simply sustain; we are working towards regeneration in the form of organic matter and carbon storage capacity in the soil. There are five main principles of regenerative agriculture: keeping the soil covered, leaving living roots in the soil, integrating livestock and chickens, limiting chemical inputs and disturbance, and encouraging diversity. We prioritize the health of our animals, crops, and soils by rotationally grazing our livestock and chickens, which maximizes their quality of life and that of the soil. We also use our meat chickens to naturally fertilize our vegetable crop fields, leaving the soil high in nitrogen which is essential for crops to grow. We use crop rotation and cover crops to maintain fertility in our vegetable fields as well as the chicken manure. Our cows and sheep are 100% grass-fed, grass finished, meaning their diet is strictly fresh grasses in the summer, and our own grown hay in the winter months. They are rotated throughout the warmer months on lush pasture and enjoy their days grazing and frolicking around. Our meat and layer chickens are pasture raised and supplemented with a non GMO grain. They are given the oppurtunity to forage for bugs, bask in dirt baths and sunshine, and just simply be a chicken. Our heritage breed pigs are forest raised on beautiful acres in the woods, allowing them to fully live how they are intended to, tilling up roots and rocks, snorting around and basking in the mud and sun. They are also supplemented with a non GMO grain and all the leftover veggies from the farm. These practices allow us to raise food as close to the cycle of nature as we can, which in return produces incredible, nourishing, and just simply happy food.
