Springing into the season.

As the flowers start to pop up and the trees bud, we have begun to work up the earth in prep for the season! It's officially spring here on the farm and we are thrilled. Spring is all about working up fields, spreading manure, building infrastructure in anticipation for our animals being out, and just organizing everything for the busy and beautiful season ahead. We have 4 tunnels planted already which are starting to bloom with kales, chard, salad, scallions, fennel, lettuce heads, fresh carrots and more! We will be getting out first outside plantings in the ground this week which will include our storage onion crop (!2,000 plants), cabbage. broccoli, salad, chard, kales, and scallions. Farmer Kyle has already direct seeded into the ground a bunch of baby greens varieties too! Oh how we cannot wait for the spring veggies to start rolling in.
Our animals are doing great and very antsy to get out to pasture! We will hopefully be getting our sheep and cows out in the first week or two of May. Our first batch of broilers (meat birds) will be heading out to pasture in just a few weeks. We will be welcoming our third batch of birds to the farm this week as well, needless to say our chicken operation is well on its way.
Our layer flocks are doing well already out on pasture! Our new gals are slowly starting to lay, which means we'll be rolling in farm fresh eggs in no time. Our pigs are loving life! We have one group already out in the woods and another still in our animal greenhouse as they aren't big enough to go out yet. We are excited to be raising more pigs this season; they truly are so fun.
Overall, we are revving up for the season and all that it holds. We are just grateful to be here, and to be more settled at our new home. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued support and gratitude for what we do. Enjoy the video below for a glimpse into farm life as of late.
