Flickers

Oh what a beautiful season it has turned out to be...
It has been our best vegetable season yet. It's like the crops grew with intention, to give us the confirmation that we are meant to be here, on this new land. The peace that has come from being able to call this our own has cracked open a depth in us that grows bigger and bigger each day. With every animal move, chicken processing, harvest, order packing, we get more attached to this dream, this mission. Don't get me wrong, the pace of this season has often felt fast, and unsteady at times. It has stretched us in ways we didn't even expect and has left us exhausted in its wake. But, within the chaos of what farming holds, there are so many what I like to call flickers, that keep our mission coming to fruition. A loud moo of a cow excited to move to new pasture, fresh compost spread, the hum of the tractor, the excitement that comes from a perfectly grilled farm steak, the first ripe tomato... The more we tune into these flickers the more the chaos dims and the aliveness shines. Advice from a tired but oh so grateful farmer, tune into the flickers.
